ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
ਸਲੋਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਹਸਤੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਹੈ ਅਹਰਣਿ ਜਿਉ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿ ਕੈ ਊਭੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
ਇਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਲੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
- ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਹੇਠ ਸਿਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਹਿਰਣ ਹਥੌੜੇ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
- ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਧਰ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਖੜਾ ਹੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾ।
- ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
- ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ (ਭੇਤ) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।

- Shalok, Third Mehl:
hastee sir ji-o ankas hai ahran ji-o sir day-ay.
man tan aagai raakh kai oobhee sayv karay-i.
i-o gurmukh aap nivaaree-ai sabh raaj sarisat kaa lay-ay.
naanak gurmukh bujhee-ai jaa aapay nadar karay-i. ||1||
- The elephant offers its head to the reins, and the anvil offers itself to the hammer;
- just so, we offer our minds and bodies to our Guru; we stand before Him, and serve Him.
- This is how the Gurmukhs eliminate their self-conceit, and come to rule the whole world.
O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands, when the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||
