ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥ ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧਾ ਨਿਤ ਮਾਰ ॥ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੂਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੩॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਕਢਦਾ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਹਟਿ ਨ ਵਥੁ ਨ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਲਏ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਭਸੁ ਪਾਹੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਹਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੁ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਲਦਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! [ Andar Kapat Sada Dukh Hai ] ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦੀ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧। ਮਹਲਾ ਤੀਸਰਾ: ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਿੱਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਿੱਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਜਾਂ ਧਾਰਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਜਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਿੱਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। (2) ਮਹਲਾ ਤੀਸਰਾ: ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਮਨਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਝੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ-ਮੁਖੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਭਰਾ! ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ! ਅਸੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਹੀਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਜਾਂ ਦੋ-ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਪੀੜਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਝੂਠ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਪ-ਇੱਛਾਵਾਨ, (ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸੀ) ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੁਭਾਅ (ਗੁਣ) ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਹੀਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਯਮ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਮੌਤ ਅਤੇ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (3) ਪੌੜੀ:ਜਿਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮਿਹਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ (ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਵਪਾਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੁਕਾਨ ‘ਤੇ) ਕਿਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਅਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੂੜ ਪਾ ਕੇ) ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੁਰਮਾਨੇ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਯਮ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭਗਤ, ਸੰਸਾਰਿਕ ਮੋਹ ਜਾਂ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਫਿਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਫਿਕਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (7)
The faithless persons, who are engrossed in vicious thoughts and sinful action, always undergo suffering, as they are never imbued with the love of the Lord. Such persons, who had functioned earlier with afflictions and vices have suffered now and will undergo suffering in the future as well, depending on their sinful actions during this life. If someone gets united with the True Guru through His Grace, then he inculcates the love of the True Name in his heart. O Nanak! They enjoy the joy and bliss of life automatically by getting rid of their doubts, whims, fear, and dual-mindedness. (1)
Mahala 3rd: The Guru-minded persons always enjoy the bliss of reciting True Name, as they are imbued with its love in the heart. The Guru-minded persons are engaged in the recitation of True Name in their talk or perception as such they enjoy eternal bliss by reciting True Name. O Nanak! The Guru-minded persons are enlightened with the knowledge of the Lord, which has removed the darkness of ignorance from their hearts. (2) Mahala 3rd: The faithless persons suffer the pangs of the cycle of births and deaths due to their impure minds, whereas the Guruminded persons are purified with the support of the Lord’s True Name. Says Nanak, O Brother! Listen to me! We could get rid of our egoism and its filth with the service of the True Guru. The faithless persons are always engrossed in various useless actions as they suffer from doubts or dual-mindedness. Such persons are lying in the slumber of ignorance and never wake up with the light of knowledge as they are functioning with the love of (Maya) worldly falsehood. The self-willed, (faithless) persons neither recite True Name nor meditate on the Guru’s Word as this is their main nature (characteristic). O Nanak! Such faithless persons waste this human life without developing the love of the True Name and then the Yama punishes them with death and disgrace for their sinful actions. (3) Pouri: The person, who is blessed with Truth and True worship is a true king. Then the whole world approaches him for his favors as this merchandise (of True Name) is not available (at any other shop) anywhere else. The persons, enjoying the company of holy saints, attain the nectar of True Name, whereas the faithless person gets disgraced. (with dust thrown in his head) The saints are the dealers in True Name of the Lord as such the Yama, collector of fines never comes near them. O Nanak! The devotee, who has amassed the wealth of True Name, remains unbothered and carefree from worldly attachments or possessions. (7)
